CargoSphere

From ICD floors to a product roadmap and a sales story

As CargoSphere's business and product partner, we turned on-ground research into a roadmap and a go-to-market story. We are their product consultancy, not their engineering vendor: we define what gets built, their engineering partner builds it.

Results

  • Outcome Demos booked on the strength of the marketing site, brochure and sales deck, ahead of full release
  • Outcome Research across 20+ ICDs and CFSs, including on-ground visits, turned into the product roadmap and feature set

Source: demos booked is client-reported, Sep 2026. The 20+ ICD and CFS count is Material Lab's own research log.

The situation

Cargo facilities and the partners around them (forwarders, customs brokers, surveyors, shipping lines) run on paper, phone calls and disconnected systems. CargoSphere set out to connect them. A platform this broad is hard to explain and easy to build wrong.

What impresses us most is how Material Lab brings product thinking, engineering expertise, and business insights together. They connect operators' needs with practical software requirements and clear market positioning, keeping the product and commercial goals aligned.

What we did

Research on the ground.

We researched 20+ ICDs and CFSs, including on-ground visits: we watched real operations, mapped every stakeholder and logged their pain points.

From pain points to a roadmap.

We turned those into the product roadmap, feature definitions, edge cases and user journeys.

CargoSphere's Cargo Facility Application, shown in a presentation system created by Material Lab. Material Lab supported product strategy, brand, and marketing; application engineering was delivered by the client's engineering partner.

One clear story.

We defined the product as two layers on one data backbone: a Cargo Facility Application for gate, yard, warehouse and billing, and a Cargo Community System connecting every party. We specified it; the client's engineering partner builds it.

Ready to sell.

Brand, a responsive marketing site, a brochure and a sales deck that tell the same story.
